Meet the Parent Navigator
To support students who are pregnant and/or parenting, Minnesota State Colleges- including NHCC- are required to have a dedicated Parent Navigator on campus. This important role is mandated by state policy to ensure you have a knowledgeable caring guide who connects you with the resources and help you need to success both academically and as a parent.

What does a Parent Navigator Do?
The Parent Navigator is your go-to person for information about campus and community support services tailored for parenting students. They provide guidance on a wide range of resources and help you navigate any challenges related to pregnancy, parenting, or family responsibilities while you pursue your education.
Navigators provide a “warm handoff” to campus and community contact with knowledge in the following areas:
- Medical and behavioral health coverage and services
- Public benefit programs related to food security
- Affordable housing and housing subsidies
- Parenting and childcare resources
- Employment assistance
- Transportation assistance
- Institutional resources including academic support

The Parent Support Scholarship Program is a unique, year-long opportunity for NHCC students who are parenting.

- A welcoming space for all NHCC students who are pregnant and/or parenting.
- Facilitated by the Parent Navigator, who brings experiences and community resources to each meeting!
- A friendly environment where children are welcome to join-bring your kids along if you’d like!
Why Join?
Joining the Parent Support Group is a wonderful way to connect with other NHCC students who are parenting or expecting. In each meeting, you’ll find a supportive space to share your experiences, exchange parenting tips and advice, and learn helpful strategies for balancing school, family life, and self-care. The group, facilitated by our Parent Navigator, welcomes you to bring your children along so you can participate in the way that works best for you and your family. Whether you’re looking to build community, relax while your child plays, or simply discover new resources, the Parent Support Group is here to help you thrive as both a student and a parent!

Please contact the Parent Navigator for the days and times of the Parent Support Group.
- Stop by as your schedule allows- there is no ongoing commitment or requirement to attend every meeting.
- No need to register in advance-just come when you can!

North Hennepin Community College provides dedicated Lactation Rooms to support nursing and breastfeeding students and employees by offering a private, quiet, safe, and hygiene environment. These spaces are designed for pumping breast milk, breastfeeding, feeding children, and related needs.

Helping Us Grow is a partnership of Hennepin County school districts and community agencies that offer free, universal home visits by license Early Childhood Family Education specialists to expectant, adopting, and parenting families providing parenting support, developmental guidance, resources, and connections to community resources.

Women Infants, and Children Supplemental Nutrition Program (WIC)
WIC offers eligible pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding individuals with nutrition education, breastfeeding support, referrals, and food benefits.

The Minnesota Breastfeeding Coalition is a volunteer-led nonprofit collaboration with local coalition and community partners across the state to promote breastfeeding equity and support families through advocacy, education, toolkits, training, webinars, and resources.
