Students meeting the following federal TRIO-eligible criteria may be considered for selection as Upward Bound (UB) participants:
- High school students demonstrating an interest in attending college
- Students who attend Park Center, Brooklyn Center, and Robbinsdale Cooper High Schools (total 50)
Academic need (low grades, low test scores, and/or have not completed pre-algebra, algebra 1 and geometry math courses)
Low income (eligible for Free/Reduced Lunch), potential first generation college student (neither parent has a 4-year degree), or at-risk academically (did not pass MCA reading or math tests)
Commitment to remain active in UB throughout high school graduation
The Upward Bound Program can provide:
Academic preparation for college
College preparatory courses
After-school tutorials & Saturday test preparation seminars (ACT and SAT)
Six week summer session on the NHCC campus
Educational and career planning
College and career exploration
College and career field trips
College admissions and financial aid information
PLAN and SAT/ACT information, registration materials, and fee waivers
- Individual assistance with college admissions applications
Individual assistance with scholarship and financial aid applications
Students can also earn up to $40 per month by attending and participating in program activities and cultural events such as visits to museums, plays, and a variety of other events!
UB staff will review all submitted application packets and contact eligible students and their parents to participate in a Student and Parent Interview. Please contact the UB Office for more information and/or to refer a student to receive an application packet.
