Overview of Mental Health Internship Program
We offer a 8-10-month internship experience within the CARE Center at North Hennepin Community College. The CARE Center is a multidisciplinary team of licensed counselors, social workers, title IX specialists, and personal counselors. The students we serve are provided with free mental health services and we do not interact with insurance or billing. This model allows us to provide the maximum amount of support for individuals and communities.

Testimonial from Previous Interns
When looking for an internship site I think a few factors are most important: quality of training, opportunities to develop, working with a population which interests you, and/or environmental support. At NHCC you will find yourself as part of a multi racial interdisciplinary team with which you are able to consult regularly to either obtain a more thorough understanding or to process any ethical/process-based questions that you have. Opportunities also abound at NHCC, the CARE team is involved in many different college wide offerings. Practicum students find themselves able to gain experience in both group and individual therapy settings. If there are any specific areas of interest that you have there are always opportunities to participate in events and perhaps even present to students directly. The students you work with may be the best part of interning at NHCC, from age, parental status, culture, race, ethnicity, and gender etc., this student population is incredibly diverse, and all have such unique focuses that no session is ever the same. At NHCC you will always be growing and are surrounded by staff that are always looking ways to improve their support of the students. Grants, student outreach programs, tutoring, gym access, group therapy, individual therapy, all of these are readily available and are free of cost. Not to mention that NHCC is a hunger free campus which boasts an award-winning Food Cupboard which is available to all students and their families. I have been privileged to get to directly see the large impact that these support efforts have had on the individuals whom I have been able to work with. NHCC is actively engaged in the work of h lping students to reach their goals, and it has been an absolute pleasure to contribute to that vision while expanding my competency as a counselor.
