Aikido at NHCC Turns 15
Happy 15th Anniversary to Aikido at NHCC! An event was held on May 1st to celebrate of 15 fantastic years! NHCC students performed Aikido demonstrations and mingled afterward with cake, juice, and conversation. We were fortunate enough to have Aikido practitioners from Canada, Denmark and Sweden in attendance at the event as well!

The 2nd Annual NHCC+ Event Showcases Scholarly Work
On April 27th, we brought back our NHCC+ event from last year. A few tweaks were made in 2023, including a location change from the gym, to the Grand Hall and an extended timeline was added, offering students five hours to share their work, instead of one. Students, staff and faculty filed into the Grand Hall, to display their poster presentations and scholarly research. The day was filled with music performances, live lectures and guided poster explanations. It was wonderful to see students, staff and faculty so eager to convey their knowledge with others! Thank you ALL for the excellent work!

An Open House Overview
Thank you to those who attended and participated in our spring Open House! Around 183 total students checked-in, making our guest grand total close to 400 people! This event would not have been a success without the 60+ faculty and staff volunteers who came out to lend a hand. It takes a village to put on an Open House and we are grateful to have such a supportive team!

Spring Student Storytelling
Six students from Shelly Siegel’s Personal Storytelling course uncovered the courage to speak publicly this spring in NHCC’s Blackbox Theater. Sitting in a semicircle, guests (comprised of NHCC staff, faculty, administrators and fellow students) offered support to the storytellers. Happening in March, this storytelling event was the first of its kind to ever occur on our campus. Shelly added,   “I wanted a small audience to start, but I’d love to grow this event. My goal is to eventually have a bigger audience.”

Makers Market Sets Up Shop in the Campus Center
In early May, around 20 vendors (including three NHCC students, four relatives of our employees and various Twin Cities small businesses) displayed and sold products. It is estimated that 100 people visited the Campus Center during the day to support the event. Shoppers could find an impressive collection of items at the Market such as: energetically-aligned handmade jewelry, glow-in-the-dark whimsical light switch covers, houseplants, fabric/crocheted goods, impeccably crafted earrings, hand poured candles, sweet-smelling soaps, cooking seasonings and more! Thank you to the vendors and guests who participated AND to the NHCC crew who put this event in motion!

This spring, a Business Career Fair was also hosted, we honored Earth Week with a plant sale and other activities and we invited poet/essayist, Ross Gay to campus, among other happenings.

We look forward to more exciting events popping up on-campus in the fall!
