UPCOMING EVENTS

Hunger Action Day- September 9th

This Hunger Free Action Day, NHCC’s CARE Center is partnering with the University of Minnesota Extension Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) team to connect food access with practical nutrition education. The EFNEP team will be on campus tabling (outside of the Food Cupboard), sharing information about nutrition education opportunities, and demonstrating a recipe using ingredients available through the NHCC Food Cupboard. Students will also have the opportunity to share their interests and help shape a potential nutrition education series on campus.

Come check it out outside the Food Cupboard, Wednesday, September 9th from 11:00am-1:00pm.

The CARE Center and DEI welcome you to attend:

Ani Djirdjirian: Finding the Power in Your Voice Reclaiming Softness and Strength Beyond Trauma with Somatic Tools:

This 2-part series explores how trauma shapes and often limits vocal expression, leading some to self-silence in softness and others to overextend their voice to be heard. Participants will learn how these patterns reflect survival responses influenced by suppressed emotions, patriarchy, culture, and community, and will gain practical somatic tools to reclaim authentic expression in speaking, singing, and setting boundaries.

Dates:  September 16th, 1pm-2pm and September 23rd, 1pm-2pm

Location: Campus Center Room 244 and on Zoom: https://minnstate.zoom.us/j/97499919026

PATHWAYS DAY- CONNECT WITH THE CARE CENTER

Inside Our Stories: What Winnie the Pooh, The Breakfast Club, and Inside Out Teach Us About Healing.

This presentation explores the emotional journeys of characters from Winnie the Pooh, The Breakfast Club, and Inside Out to highlight the ways individuals navigate stress, pain, and inner conflict while still finding meaning, connection, and belonging. By examining how each character expresses emotions, copes with struggle, and leans into vulnerability, we create space to normalize mental health conversations and reduce shame and stigma. Through these familiar stories, we uncover universal truths about healing, self empowerment, and the resilience that emerge when people feel seen, valued, and supported by their community. Students will walk away understanding that like these characters; there is life, growth, and hope after painful or traumatic experiences.

So you want to be a Social Worker, Mental Health Professional, or Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor:

Interested in a career supporting others and making a difference in your community? Join us for a conversation about pathways into the helping professions, including social work, mental health, and alcohol and drug counseling. We’ll explore different educational routes, career opportunities, and what students can expect along the way.
