Tips for Student Success
Time Management Tips
- Plan your week at the start of every week.
- Write down when you work, go to class, and have other plans.
- Make a list of all assignments due that week and plan when you will do them.
- Turning in work late is better than not turning it in. If you need more time, email your teacher and explain why.
- Check your schedule every day so you stay on track. Look at your class syllabus or D2L often.
Study Tips
- Take notes during class. Writing things down helps you remember them.
- Teachers often talk about the most important topics in class, so good notes will help you study.
- When reading your textbook, highlight important ideas.
- Before a test, review every chapter. Spend extra time on the parts you don’t understand.
- Look at any study guides your teacher gives you. Some questions may be similar to the test.
- Do your homework and look over your notes right after class to help you remember.
- Join or start a study group.
- If you think you may have a disability, visit Access Services in the library.
- Visit the Academic Study Skills group in LRC 104 for more help.
Tips on Working with Your Instructor
- Get to know your teacher. It can help you do better in the class.
- Sit near the front of the room so you can focus better.
- Go to office hours if you need help. This shows you care about your learning.
- If your teacher does not reply to your email by the next business day, send a polite follow-up. If you still do not hear back in 2–3 days, contact your advisor.
- If you have an emergency or must miss class, tell your teacher as soon as you can.
- Getting to know your teacher can help if you ever need extra help or more time on an assignment.
