Admissions 

  1. What is the application deadline?
  2. What is the application process?
  3. What are the demographics of the student body and faculty and staff?
  4. How do I sign up for an appointment with an admissions counselor and a campus tour? 

Academics 

  1. Does the college offer the program/major I am interested in?
  2. Are there specific admission requirements for my major that are different from admission requirements for the college?
  3. What is the ratio of students to professors in my major?
  4. Will I have an assigned faculty or professional academic advisor?
  5. Based on the credits I am transferring in; how long will it take me to complete my major? Does this include taking classes in the summer? Are courses offered on-line, in person, or a combination of both? Is the format day, evening, or weekend?
  • Ask for a sequenced semester by semester academic plan 

Financial Aid 

  1. When is the deadline to apply for financial aid?
  2. Am I eligible for any scholarship opportunities offered by the college?
  3. What is the tuition cost per credit? 

Career Placement 

  1. What support do you offer for assisting students to secure an internship in my program/major?
  2. What type of career placement assistance do you offer?
  3. How many graduates from my program have secured job placement within one year of graduation? 

Student Services 

  1. What type of support services are available (i.e., tutoring, disability services, day care, counseling, etc.)?
  2. What co-curricular opportunities are available (i.e., clubs, sports, leadership programs, etc.)? 

Tips

  • Certain factors may be more important to you. You may wish to add other questions to this list (i.e., how accessible is the college by public transportation?
  • Write a summary of your research for each college. This will help keep you organized and allow you to more easily compare the pros and cons of each college as you go through the decision-making process.
