At North Hennepin Community College, we believe in the power of education to transform lives. We see that transformation every day in our classrooms, through student services and our community partnerships. It is with great excitement and deep gratitude that I share with you our Strategic Plan for 2026-2029 (July 1, 2025-June 30, 2029).

This plan is a roadmap for our future, shaped by the voices of more than 850 students, faculty, staff and community members. Together, we asked bold questions, listened with intention and imagined what is possible when we center student success, equity and excellence in everything we do.

Our mission, "Engaging students, changing lives," remains our guiding light. Over the next four years, we will focus on four strategic themes: Completion, Transferability, Excellence in Teaching, and Inclusivity. These themes reflect our commitment to helping every student reach their goals, whether that means earning a degree, transferring to a university, or entering the workforce with confidence and purpose.

We envision a future where NHCC is known not only for academic excellence, but also for being a welcoming, inclusive and innovative institution. A place where students can thrive, grow and lead. A place where faculty and staff are supported in their professional growth and where our partnerships with local businesses and universities open doors to opportunity.

This plan is a promise to our students, our employees and our community to keep listening, improving and showing up for one another. It’s a promise to be bold in our aspirations and grounded in our values.

I want to thank everyone who contributed to this process. Your insights, passion and belief in our mission have shaped a plan that is both ambitious and achievable.

Shantell Gill, a nursing and psychology student also serving as Student Senate president, participated in the strategic planning process and appreciated having a voice at the table.

When asked what theme she was most excited about, Shantell replied, “I'm most excited about the themes of Inclusivity and Completion. As someone who values equity and student support, I believe that creating an inclusive environment is key to helping all students feel seen, heard, and empowered to succeed. I'm also passionate about Completion because so many students face barriers like being a student parent that makes it difficult to finish their programs. I love that the college is focusing on helping us not only start but actually reach our goals.”

Biology faculty Danielle Twaroski echoed that enthusiasm: “While I think all the themes will play a pivotal role in bettering the NHCC community and the student experience here, I am most excited about the excellence in teaching theme. Professional development is extremely important to me, and I think investing time and resources into educators will pay off tremendously for the students.”

Together, we are building a future that reflects the best of NHCC, and I am proud to be on this journey with all of you!
