North Hennepin Community College (NHCC) has earned national recognition as one of the Best for Vets: Colleges 2025 by Military Times. This marks the first time NHCC has participated in this prestigious ranking, securing a spot among 357 institutions nationwide and ranked third in Minnesota. The honor underscores NHCC’s strong commitment to supporting military service members, veterans, and their families.

The Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges list is widely regarded as the most comprehensive ranking of schools dedicated to helping veterans succeed academically and personally. Institutions are evaluated on academic quality, student support services, affordability, and outcomes for veterans, including graduation and retention rates.

“This recognition reflects our unwavering dedication to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for military-connected students,” said NHCC President Dr. Rolando García. “We are proud to serve those who have served our country and to provide resources that help them thrive in their educational journey.”

Currently, more than 70 NHCC students use military-connected benefits. NHCC offers a wide range of resources, including:

  • A Military and Veteran Services Coordinator
  • A Guided Pathways Advisor
  • A Minnesota Department of Veteran Affairs Regional Coordinator
  • A Veterans Resource Center, equipped with computers, free printing, coffee, snacks, a TV, and gaming system for study and connection

NHCC also partners with local organizations such as the VFW and Minnesota National Guard to strengthen its support network and foster community engagement.

“Military-connected students come here with a wide range of backgrounds and circumstances, whether they are veterans, current service members, or the spouses and children of those who have served,” said Dylan Rowinski, NHCC Military and Veteran Services Coordinator. “I’m proud that across our campus, we have services in place to support each of them from the moment they apply through graduation or transfer. This recognition reflects the work our entire college community does every single day to make NHCC a place where all military-connected students can thrive."

U.S. Navy Veteran and student Thomas Anderson shared that his experience at NHCC has been “smooth, supportive and empowering.” He added, “The Veterans Resource Center has been a vital resource, offering a quiet space to study, access computers and coffee, and connect with peers. With veteran-focused programs and events that build community, the college feels truly veteran-friendly.”
