Each year, the NHCC Art Department gives out three awards in honor of art faculty members Lance Kiland, Joseph Gazzuolo, and Frank Schreiber for the annual Fine Art Exhibition at the Minnesota State Fair.

Yesterday, NHCC Fine Art faculty, Gina Dabrowski and local artist Kathleen Kvern, selected three artworks to receive an NHCC award, highlighting the types of art taught in our art department. They selected a painting, a drawing, and a black-and-white photograph. Thanks to NHCC for being a sponsor at the Great Minnesota Get-Together. Gina and Kathleen selected three award winners from the 343 artworks on display in the Fine Arts Building at the MN State Fair, and the winners each received $100.

Here are the three artworks that received an NHCC award:

  • Rita Berg, Stillness, Pencil on paper, St. Paul - Joseph Gazzuolo Award
  • Love Quetee, Gbanganla, Oil on Canvas, Maple Grove - Lance Kiland Award
  • Lars R. Samuelsson, North Minneapolis, Black and White Print, Hugo - Frank Schreiber Award

Thanks to former NHCC art faculty Will Agar for setting up this partnership to raise the visibility of NHCC at Minnesota's biggest get-together. Even after they have passed away, it's great to see the legacies of our beloved NHCC faculty represented at the Fair.
