NHCC+ is an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members to come together and share their scholarship, creative work, and co-curricular projects with each other, including live presentations and poster displays.

Event Schedule

Wednesday April 23rd:

  • 11:00 a.m. – NHCC Honors Student Oluwaseun Sule presenting an Honors project on Grassroots Movement.
  • 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. – Play the Mario Maker Level Designs created by Video Game Entertainment students.
  • 11:00 am.-12:15 p.m. – Video Game Entertainment students will be sharing their Mario Maker Level Designs.
  • 12:00 p.m. – NHCC Education Faculty, Dr. Susan Moore presenting Using a Phonetic Alphabet, the Initial Teaching Alphabet (i.t.a.), to Remediate Reading Disabilities in First-Year College Students.
  • 1:30 p.m. – NHCC EAP and Global Studies Faculty, Mark Larson Shihan & NHCC Aikido Students performing an Aikido demonstration (HWC 167)

Thursday, April 24th: 

  • 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. – Play the Mario Maker Level Designs created by Video Game Entertainment students.
  • 11:30 a.m. – NHCC+ Keynote Speaker, Amáda Márquez Simula, Mayor of Columbia Heights and a founder of Heights Next, a local nonprofit organization speaking on Building Community and Connections. Amáda is the second Latina mayor ever elected in Minnesota and currently the only Latina mayor in the state. She has extensive experience working to build and support local community connections through active engagement and volunteer work in environmental, social and racial justice, and economic efforts. Amáda is endorsed by multiple local, regional, and state level organizations and unions.
  • 2:00 p.m. – NHCC Computer Science Faculty, Jack Pope presenting epop, A Goat on the UNIX Farm, a learning platform he designed for students in Computer Science and Data Science.
  • 2:00 p.m. – NHCC Biology students will present their research posters on the second floor of BHCC. There will also be a summary poster of their work in CBT 195.
