Leadership at North Hennepin Community College (NHCC) is evolving—and it’s more inclusive, intentional, and empowering. This fall, NHCC is excited to launch the Holistic Leadership Development Program (HLDP), a re-envisioned workshop series based on the L.E.A.D. program which was an acronym for Leadership through Experience, Awareness, and Development. While LEAD focused on promoting leadership, teamwork, engagement, and skill development, HLDP takes it a step further by embracing a whole-student approach to leadership.
Why the Shift?
The transition from LEAD to HLDP reflects a broader understanding of what it means to be a leader in today’s world. Leadership goes beyond quizzes, lectures, and leading discussions—it’s connection, purpose, and growth. HLDP is designed to support students by developing leadership skills that are applicable in the classroom, workplace, their communities, and personal lives.
What Makes HLDP Different?
- Interactive Learning Sessions: Held throughout the fall and spring semesters, these sessions are designed to be engaging, reflective, and practical.
- Flexible Access: All sessions take place in the Campus Center and are recorded for later viewing on D2L—especially for students with busy schedules.
- Recognition: Students who complete the program will receive a certificate from the Office of Student Life presented at the annual awards banquet in April. (Save the date for April 30th!)
- Holistic Themes: HLDP emphasizes sustainability, self-reliance, reflection, resiliency, and communication - empowering students to lead with empathy and awareness.
