“On the Edge: Art Quilts" is a curated selection of hand-crafted art quilts from recent work by former NHCC professor and artist, Jane Bassuk.

In the 17x17 inch art quilts that hang on the wall, Jane uses fabric, beads, and embroidery thread to create surreal landscapes that use organic shapes derived from the flora and fauna of the natural world. There are a variety of textures, such as brickwork patterns, to develop the surface and uses color to create different light effects.

Jane began her studies at the Art Students' League, in New York, where she grew up. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a Master of Fine Arts, from the University of Iowa, in Iowa City.

Jane taught art at NHCC for 23 years. As an artist and educator, Jane loved the students, and said they were grateful to be in class, so diverse, and from all different backgrounds. She retired from NHCC in 2020.

You can find Jane's artwork in the collection at the Walker Art Center, as well as the University of Minnesota, including business collections such as Minneapolis St. Paul Companies and First Northwestern Bank of St. Paul.
