Earth Day is an annual event held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First celebrated in 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally. Although Earth Day is on April 22, NHCC will be hosting Earth Week events on campus from Monday April 17- Thursday, April 20. Learn about these events below!

Monday, April 17

  • Student Environmental Association Seeds and Seedlings Giveaway 
    10am-12pm in front of the NHCC Food Cupboard.
    Drop by for a cup of coffee, some native seeds for pollinator gardens, and register for Brooklyn Park’s No Mow May. 
  • Environmental Justice and Policy Virtual Earth Day Keynote
    12-1pm Environment Justice and Policy presented by Isaias Hernandez.
    Isaias Hernandez was born in Los Angeles, California, also known as Tongva Land. He grew up in Section 8 housing, was a recipient of food stamps, and lived in a community that faced environmental injustice. He is involved with Gen Z Environmental Justice Education and is the Founder of QueerBrownVegan. Join us as he shares more of his story, the importance of his work and learn how we can make a difference toward environmental justice and equity! Tuesday, April 18

  • Minnesota Sacred Sites – Dr. Joel Jensen 
    10-11:30am in CLA 120
    Master Naturalist, Dr. Jensen has been documenting lost Ojibwe and Dakota petroglyph/land art sites. He will discuss the history of and cultural continuity within destroyed Minnesota landscapes.
  • Greenhouse Plant Sale
    12:30-2pm in the NHCC Tessman Greenhouse

Wednesday, April 19

  • Greenhouse Plant Sale
    9:30-10:30am in the NHCC Tessman Greenhouse

  • University of Minnesota Raptor Center Demonstration
    11:30-12:30pm in the CBT Grand Hall 
    This presentation-style program features three raptors and a Bald Eagle. During the presentation, you'll learn what makes these birds unique and see them each live and on the glove.
  • US Air Force Heartland of America Band Performance
    1-2pm in the CBT Grand Hall 
    The United States Air Force Heartland of America Band will provide a musical experience that covers a wide range of styles interspersed with a positive message that highlights the benefits of volunteering to serve in the United States Air Force.

Thursday April 20

  • Biomedical Club host Earth Day themed games 
    12:30-2:30pm in the Campus Center
    NHCC's Biomedical club will bring Earth Day themed games to the Student Life Club and Org Mixer. Stop by to meet students, learn about Student Clubs, and play games.
