Black History Month Kick Off!

02/05/2026: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in Helling Hall (CBT 195

In celebration of Black History Month, Frog Tree Farm—together with Northwest Suburban Integration School District, Be the Best Foundation, Affirmation House, Friends of Frog Tree Farm, Minnesota Africans United, Three Rivers Park District, and Hennepin County—will host a community kickoff event designed to inspire and empower at least 100 youth and young adults ages 14–25 from historically underserved communities. This gathering will showcase Black excellence, culture, and leadership while providing pathways for participants to explore career opportunities and connect with mentors and role models, particularly BIPOC professionals.

The event will feature a dynamic opening session, interactive workshops on networking and career exploration, and small-group discussions with professionals from diverse industries. Youth will gain valuable insights, resources, and encouragement to pursue their educational and career goals while enjoying food, cultural celebration, and opportunities to receive participation incentives. Beyond honoring the legacy of Black history, this kickoff will serve as a launchpad for building leadership, community, and future opportunities—creating lasting connections that inspire the next generation.

Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Circle

Black Education: How Did We Get Here? Where Do We Go?

This lecture examines the history of black education in America through three fundamental questions: What is education for? Who is it for? Who controls it? The lecture also explores why educational stability has remained elusive for Black communities and what responses are required today.

BlackOut Improv Group

02/26/2026: 11 a.m.-12 p.m. & 1 p.m.-2 p.m., Black Box Theater (CC 242)

Blackout is the first all-Black improv group based in Minneapolis. Founded in 2015, we seek to put more Black performers on more stages, to create comedic dialogue around serious truths, and to provide improv access for Black students. We create a dialogue with the audience with our flagship format, Swag Hat, and invite all experiences to the theater so that we can have an honest, inclusive conversation.
