September 15, 2021 – Antisemitism Campus Response

Supporting Our Jewish Community

It is with a heavy heart that I send this email regarding the recent antisemitism hate crimes targeting members of our Jewish community here in the Twin Cities. Amid the enduring conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, there have been numerous reports of antisemitism attacks across the United States, an uptick documented by the Anti-Defamation League and others. These come against a tragic and already tense backdrop of mass killings and hate crimes that have taken place at American synagogues in recent years.

Care for Yourself and Others

These recent incidents serve as a reminder that we have an increased responsibility to listen thoughtfully to one another and to support and protect every member of our community. We need to stay committed to racial healing and upholding anti-racism practices. As always, please take this time to show compassion and care to those around you and with yourself.

In Solidarity

Now more than ever we must stand and work together to combat hate, including this recent spike of antisemitism acts, wherever we find it. At North Hennepin, we are in a unique position to uphold these values and to serve as a model for organizing the kinds of constructive, civil conversations that can lead to positive and lasting change. We must leverage our diverse backgrounds and perspectives, as well as our quest for knowledge and truth, to maintain an inclusive and empowering campus for all who enter. Be mindful that those around you may be hurting right now and take steps to extend compassion in the classroom, in our Zoom spaces, and as we interact around campus. Reach out if you need support, and as always, let me know if you have any questions. My deepest respect and admiration to you all.

Warmest Regards,

Rolando
