I moved to Minnesota from Alabama 8 years ago come August. My life's journey brought me here through my passion for food justice, equity, and aspirations to create greater systemic change to help all individuals thrive and live their best life.

Prior to my role at North Hennepin Community College I've held many service roles in both food retail and restaurant settings. My experience in these settings not only generated my passion for food and the potential to eliminate barriers and build community; but similarly guided my path toward the Social Work profession. Since then I have dedicated a large portion of my personal and scholarly endeavors toward food policy and understanding the mechanisms and disconnects that contribute to hunger in our communities.
In addition to my previous culinary experience I have worked in intensive mental health treatment settings. I am also now on my fourth year as a Reserve Teacher for Minneapolis Public Schools. I love working with youth and embrace the many lessons and life experiences I get the privilege of receiving through my interactions with them.

I graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with my bachelor's in Social Work. I received my Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Minnesota after the winter semester of 2020. Currently I am leveraging my education and skills as an Americorps Vista Member to further develop NHCC's Food Cupboard and basic needs initiatives in support of student success and achievement.

When I'm not working I can be found travelling, exploring nature, biking, hanging out with my dogs, or attending music events. Feel free to drop by the NHCC Food Cupboard to talk about food, how to prepare it, or tell me about a really good meal you've had recently.
