Staffed by experienced professional tutors, the Math Resource Center (MRC) provides drop-in tutoring for any math or math-related course. Our goal is to help students become independent learners.
The Math Resource Center (MRC), located in the Learning Resource Center, provides layered tutoring support throughout all operating hours. Peer tutors, professional tutors, and faculty tutors are available to assist students with their math coursework. 24/7 online support is also available through Tutor.com. Tutoring support is free for students seeking help in the NHCC math and math-related courses they are currently taking!
Students can access tutoring support in person or via Zoom and by drop-in session or scheduled appointment based on their individual learning needs. Sessions are scheduled as 1-hour increments.

Drop-In Tutoring
Drop-in tutoring is available for students who need assistance without scheduling an appointment. Students may bring questions, work through problems, review course concepts, or receive support with their math coursework. Sessions are available via Zoom or in person.
The MRC also offers a dedicated multi-student drop-in session with a professional tutor from 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. This option is ideal for students who have quick questions, need help getting started on a problem, want clarification on a concept, or would benefit from working alongside other students while receiving guidance from a professional tutor. These sessions allow up to five students to receive assistance at the same time.
One-on-One Appointments
Students who would like dedicated, individualized support can schedule a one-on-one appointment with an MRC tutor. One-on-one appointments are available with peer tutors, professional tutors, and faculty tutors and are offered in person or via Zoom.
One-on-one appointments are a great option for students who would like to plan ahead, reserve time with a specific tutor, receive focused assistance with challenging concepts, get additional practice, prepare for exams, or have more time to work through course material in depth.
Students can schedule an appointment through Navigate, located within their D2L course shell. A Navigate link is also available in the blue information box on this page for easy access. Math Resource Center FAQs
Students seeking individual support may drop in for a one-on-one session with a tutor when availability permits or schedule a one-on-one appointment through Navigate for dedicated time with a tutor. See above for details.
Students should bring in their homework and assignments and be ready to get help. If their questions are online, they can bring in their laptop or use the computers in the area. If they are unsure where to start, we can walk them through a problem and show them the steps. On the next problem, we would do less and have them do more but ask questions while they are doing the problem. We try to avoid making assumptions and may refresh information that they need to solve the problem. They are the owner of their knowledge. That means they need to do the problem to understand the process. We are here to help them learn and learn how to learn.
Graphing calculators can be rented through the Bookstore located in ES 88. Prior to obtaining the calculator, students will need to pay a $20 semester rental fee and fill out a rental contract available at the Bookstore.
Practice test questions are available online through Testing Center, or a hard copy can be obtained by visiting them in ES 108. The MRC staff can help students go through these problems and suggest other options for review. Students do not pass or fail the assessment test. It provides information on what class they should start with to be successful. We can assist them in reviewing for the test or offer test taking suggestions.
