ACCESS S-STEM Scholarship

Earn up to $7,500 toward an A.S. degree at North Hennepin Community College, and $9,000 per year toward a bachelor’s degree at St. Cloud State University, upon transfer! Open to first-time college students who are Pell Eligible, including PSEO, IB and AP students. 

Background

The ACCESS S-STEM Scholarship is made possible through the National Science Foundation’s Scholarships in STEM (S-STEM) grant. The purpose of the scholarship is for students to earn an associate degree in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) field at North Hennepin Community College and seamlessly transfer to St. Cloud State University to obtain a bachelor’s degree. Each year, five North Hennepin students will be awarded the scholarship.

Benefits

St. Cloud State and North Hennepin will work with the ACCESS STEM scholars on career pathways exploration, and help students find internships and jobs within STEM fields. The institutions will also provide academic support services to ACCESS STEM scholars including tutoring and instruction on research methods.

  • Requirements

    S-STEM scholarship recipients will be selected by North Hennepin Community College. In order to be considered, applicants must:

    1. Be citizens of the United States, Nationals of the United States (as defined in Section 101 (a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act), aliens admitted as refugees under Section 207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, or aliens lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence;
    2. Be enrolled full time in a program leading to a STEM degree at the associate or baccalaureate level. Enrollment must be full-time for each semester a student receives a scholarship; Students at the community colleges will need to transfer to St. Cloud State to get the last two years of their scholarship.
    3. Demonstrate academic potential or ability; High school GPA above 3.0 and ACT Math score of 22 or above.
    4. Eligibility for a PELL grant as determined by the completion of their FAFSA.
  • Application Steps

    1. Apply to North Hennepin Community College
    2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Resources are available on campus if you would like assistance with this process.
    3. Applicants will need two letters of recommendation from academic professionals, one of which should be a STEM teacher in their high school.
    4. Applicants will need to write a 500-word essay around their career goals.
    5. Fill in the ACCESS STEM application.
    6. Upload your letters of recommendation and your personal essay.
    7. ACCESS STEM applications are due for North Hennepin Scholarships on May 30, 2018.
  • The Timeline

    • Applications are due for North Hennepin Scholarships on May 30, 2018.
    • You will receive a confirmation email after you submit the application.
    • Make sure all of your documents are uploaded.
    • Finalists for the scholarship will be interviewed by the selection committee.
    • Accepted scholars will register for classes starting Fall 2018 semester.
