Holistic Admission Nursing Application Process
NHCC utilizes a holistic admission process to review applicants for admission to the nursing program. All applications will be reviewed using the holistic process.
The holistic admission process will evaluate applicants along three significant components of an applicant's background. This process will consider experiences, attributes and academic metrics.
Nursing Admission Information
Admission into the nursing program requires a separate special application and entrance exam. The selection process is highly competitive, so students are encouraged to plan ahead. NHCC’s Nursing program may not be able to accept all applicants that meet the minimum standards. Meeting the minimum requirements for the application, does NOT guarantee that a student will be competitive with other applicants. Nursing classes start in the fall semester and the spring semester of each year.
- Start by learning more about our nursing program through our online Nursing Information session. This session will give you a general overview of the nursing program requirements and application process.
- We also offer Pre-Nursing Q&A (Question and Answer) Sessions. These sessions give a very brief overview of our nursing program. The focus is to allow students to come with questions they may have about the program requirements, the application process, and connect with our advisors and other students. Q&A Session Dates are listed below. Pre-registration is not required.
- In collaboration with the Writing Center and the WIEL Center, we offer Nursing Application Workshops to help students prepare their essays which are required for the application. These sessions give students some tips and tricks on the essay portion of the nursing application and share resources students can use during that process.

- All applicants to the nursing program are required to complete the most recent version of the ATI TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) test.
- TEAS is a timed, multiple-choice exam evaluating your knowledge (particularly in areas like the Sciences) including but not limited to: Anatomy and Physiology, Life Science, Chemistry, Math, English and Language Usage, and Reading Comprehension. The exam is computer-based, and the NHCC Testing Center is a testing site.
- The newest version the TEAS test (ATI TEAS Version 7) came out June 3, 2022. Any student applying to Nursing or MLT at NHCC will need to take this new version (even if they have a score from a prior version)
- Register to take the TEAS test. Go to the ATI Testing page.
- Applicants are allowed to test as many times as they want. However, there is a fee each time. Fees are posted on the ATI website.
- The best score achieved may be submitted with the application.
- All applicants must send their TEAS test scores to NHCC (unless taken at NHCC). If you are testing anywhere other than NHCC, you will need to send your TEAS transcript to NHCC following the completion of your TEAS Exam by logging into your ATI Account at www.atitesting.com/login and selecting the MY ATI tab then the RESULTS tab. Follow the prompt for Send Transcript.

- Work with the Writing Center to polish your final essays. Contact them and schedule an appointment.

- Prewrite your essays and save them in a document so that once you start the application you can simply copy it into the application form and reference it later, if needed
- Applicants will hear back about nursing admission decisions around April 1 for Fall admission and around August 1 for Spring admission
The Nursing Application
The Nursing application is currently open and will remain open through June 1, 2024 for the admission cycle for the Spring 2025 start.
Additional Requirements
Students accepted to the nursing program will be required to participate in nursing clinical experiences, receive certification in CPR for the healthcare provider, and maintain current immunizations records and criminal background checks. Upon acceptance to the nursing program, a student would receive more information on these requirements. Please do NOT complete these requirements prior to attending the nursing program orientation, which takes place after acceptance into the nursing program.
Note: Minnesota law requires that any person who provides services that involve direct contact with patients and residents at a health facility licensed by the Minnesota Department of Health must have a background study conducted by the state. Any individual who is disqualified from having direct patient contact as a result of the background study, and whose disqualification is not set aside by the Commission of Health, will not be permitted to participate in a clinical placement in a Minnesota licensed health care facility. Failure to participate in a clinical placement required by the academic program could result in ineligibility to qualify for a degree in this program.
Program Application Timelines

The application for Spring Semester admissions will be open April 1 - June 1.
