How do I sign up for an Orientation Session?
You can sign up after you have tested at Post Assessment Advising. OR stop by the Advising Center or call 763.424.0703. You need to sign up for a session – if you attend without signing up with us first, you will not be allowed to attend that session.
What do I need to do before orientation?
All students need to take the placement exam or get a testing waiver for Reading, Writing, and Math prior to signing up for orientation.
What do I need to bring to Orientation?
- Your placement test results
- A photo I.D.
- A copy of transcript (if you have not already sent it to Records & Registration)
- You may bring guests, however, no children unless you have another adult present with you.
What happens at Orientation?
At orientation, you will be able to:
- Meet with advisors
- Build a schedule
- Register for classes
- Review placement test results
- Learn about college resources
- Get your NHCC ID Card
- Ask questions about anything!
What about family members attending orientation with me?
It depends on the session whether or not guests are able to attend. Please call and ask us before bringing any guests if there is space and availability for this.
What are my steps after Orientation?
- Get your NHCC ID Card
- Get Books!
- Set up your payment for classes (payment plan, financial aid, etc)
Can I complete the FAFSA application to receive Financial Aid before coming to Orientation?
YES! We recommend you complete the FAFSA as soon as you are admitted to NHCC. It can take up to 3 weeks to process your FAFSA application, so complete it ASAP. You do not have to wait to take the placement test or do orientation to do the FAFSA. (Link to FA website.)
What if I am a transfer student?
We still recommend attending in-person orientation to meet with an advisor and see how your classes have transferred in. If you do not have any questions regarding your class selection or your transfer credits, you can complete the online orientation. Get your transcript evaluated by Records before attending Orientation if possible.
What if I am an international student?
International students attending NHCC on an F-1 Visa must attend Orientation. Please contact Sean Olson in the Admissions Office at email@example.com or call 763-424-0722.
What if I am a PSEO (Post Secondary Education Student)?
You must attend a PSEO Orientation, not a general student orientation. Specific information will be given that you can only receive while attending a PSEO Orientation.
What are late start orientations?
Late Start Orientations are for late start courses for the current semester only. Please note that classes and financial aid availability for late start courses are limited.
