A member who devotes his/her time to Phi Theta Kappa earns service points.
Earn service points

- Attend Phi Theta Kappa meetings
- Attend Phi Theta Kappa fellowship activities
- Volunteer for Phi Theta Kappa sponsored activities
- Attend Phi Theta Kappa conferences and conventions
- Volunteer for North Hennepin Community College activities when Phi Xi is asked, and approves the request

Double your service points
Earn double service points when you participate, or volunteer for Phi Xi projects that incorporate the International Study Topic. This year our topic is Gold, Gods, and Glory: The Global Dynamics of Power. Notices of these projects will be available through email, and they will be posted on the bulletin boards around campus.
Use your service points
Service points earned may be used towards the Phi Theta Kappa stole and tassel to be worn at graduation. A member needs 35 points for a free stole, and 20 points for a free tassel. The points earned towards your stole and tassel should be from a well-rounded grouping of the above activities. The idea of earning your stole and tassel is that you have participated in activities that promote the foundations of Phi Theta Kappa: Scholarship, Leadership, Fellowship, and Service. Also, these activities should encompass Phi Theta Kappa, the college, and the community. If you do not plan on graduating, but have earned your service points, an equivalent item may be chosen from the Phi Theta Kappa catalog.
Service points may also be converted into volunteer hours. Any Phi Theta Kappa activity that you participate in is considered volunteer time. These volunteer hours can be used when applying for scholarships and to other institutions that require volunteering (North Hennepin Community College's Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship requires 40 service points, and the National Coca-Cola Scholarship requires over 100 hours of volunteering).
Keep track of your service points
We ask that you please keep track of your own service points as a back-up plan. Keep a detailed record of your volunteer events and the amount of time you worked on them. We appreciate the help you give, and want to make sure that you receive the points you earned. |
