Service learning coursework can be project-centered, portfolio-based, incorporate journaling, be reflective in nature, or consist of a single assignment with any of the following requirements: paper writing, group presentations, reflective essay questions, or extra credit assignments. Students must be able to provide their own transportation to a community partnership site and perform the assigned tasks and duties related to the course curriculum. A student's service learning experience may include:
- Enrolling in a class with a Service Learning component
- Selecting a community partner by career field or organization type
- Completing an application, liability contract and background check
- Committing to 10 to 40 hours of service per semester
- Preparing a reflective paper, presentation or portfolio on the service learning experience
- Checking in with the community organization, class instructor and NHCC's Service Learning Office at servicelearning@nhcc.edu
