International Student Admissions
North Hennepin Community College encourages applicants for admission from qualified persons around the world. Persons of foreign countries interested in studying at NHCC as an F-1 international student must complete the International Student Application process.
What is an F-1 Student?
An F-1 student is an non-immigrant individual who has been approved to pursue a full time course of study at an approved US educational institution. The period of stay in the US is temporary, and the F-1 student is expected to return to his/her home country upon completion of the academic program.
SEVIS
SEVIS is the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System - a web-based database maintained by US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for managing the status of international students and exchange visitors while they are in the US. SEVIS maintains information on individuals in F, M and J status, including dependents.
Designated School Officials (DSOs) at approved colleges and universities use SEVIS to issue I-20 forms and DS-2019 forms to eligible individuals prior to those individuals gaining F-1, M-1 or J-1 immigration status. In addition, DSOs update SEVIS with information that is required by regulation to be maintained on this individuals.
