Computers/Computer Labs

North Hennepin offers students three computer classrooms (ES 116, ES 120 and LRC167), a large open lab in the library and a Macintosh lab with related Desktop Publishing and Graphic software (FAC 119). Computer labs directly support classroom instruction, are equipped with overhead projectors and printers, and have the latest versions of various software packages including Microsoft Office, internet browsers and programming languages. In addition, computers for student use are located in various areas across campus - ES lobby, LRC, CC Cafeteria, etc.

Lab Guidelines

1. NHCC computers, equipment and supplies are reserved for purposes related to classroom instruction and student coursework.
2. NHCC reserves the right to limit or restrict computer use. Students using NHCC computers, equipment and supplies are to abide by the following:
3. Software shall be installed and updated only by authorized staff. No software shall be downloaded and/or installed by students.
4. Use is restricted to classroom related work. Personal or business use is prohibited.
5. Printing is limited to single copies. Copiers for multiple copies are available in the hallway outside the business area.
6. Use only paper provided by NHCC.
7. Food and beverages are prohibits by computer equipment.
8. Use is limited to students. Children or non-students may be asked to leave.
9. Please respect the learning-oriented classroom environment. Disruptive activity is not allowed. Turn off cell phones and pagers, and be courteous to your neighbor. Staff are authorized to ask anyone disruptive to leave the area.
10. Lab assistants are available for help with equipment and software questions. The following applies:
11. On-duty lab assistants are identifiable by their red vest. If they are in the lab, but not on duty, please do not ask them for assistance.
12. Lab assistants do not do homework for students.
13. Lab assistants are not instructors or private tutors. For tutoring assistance, contact the Tutor Center, the Math Resource Center or the Writing Center.
14. Lab hours are enforced. Fifteen (15) minutes prior to closing, students are notified of closing time. Students need to finish their project/printing before closing.

Printing

North Hennepin offers a printing system, which includes:   

• Wireless printing from all buildings on campus to any of the 11 printer stations. (Note: current not available for the Mac or Vista or Windows 7 64-bit operating systems.)
• Two locations print or copy in color – the Library and the Campus Center.
• An environmentally-friendly campus to help reduce the amount of paper and toner wasted each year.

Printing Guidelines / Information

• Instructions are posted near all public computers.
• Instructions for printing from your laptop. (If you receive a error, download the Laptop Client Zipfile and extract the print client).
• User can pay by cash or with a pre-paid/refillable print card that can be purchased in the Library and refilled at any of the 11 print stations.
• Cost for a double-sided black and white print/copy is 10 cents per page.
• Cost for a color print/copy is 40 cents per side.
