PSEO

The Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program allows high school students the opportunity to earn college credits or to use those credits towards the completion of high school graduation requirements.

Accuplacer Testing Eligibility

  • High School Seniors must rank in the top half (50%) of their high school class or top half nationally on a standardized test.
  • High School Juniors must rank in the top third (66%) of their high school class or top third nationally on a standardized test.

Examples of standardized tests: ACT, SAT, PLAN, etc.

Students younger than 16 or older than 20 are not eligible for PSEO.

Application Deadline

  • The priority application deadline for the fall semester is April 15.  The final deadline is July 1. (adjusted to the next business day if this date falls on a weekend).
  • The application deadline for spring semester is December 1 (adjusted to the next business day if this date falls on a weekend).

There is no PSEO enrollment during summer session. High school students interested in summer attendance apply for special high school admission.

Application Process

1. Consult with high school counselor

Talk to your high school counselor to make sure you are able to fulfill high school graduation requirements. Your counselor will be able to help you determine if you are eligible, apply for admission, and choose courses that will meet your high school and college goals.

2. Complete and submit all PSEO eligibility application materials together.     

  • NHCC PSEO application (PSEO students do not pay the application fee)
  • PSEO Agreement of Understanding 
  • Notice of Student Registration (MN State form) (Part 1 requires parent/guardian signature if you're under 18; part 2 requires high school official signature.)
  • Official high school transcript or (A transcript or standardized test report is only official if it is in a sealed envelope from the school or testing agency. Transcripts must include the most recent semester grades available at the time of application.)
  • Official standardized test scores are required if you attend homeschool, charter or alternative schools, and if no class rank is indicated on your official transcript. The test results must be from a test taken no more that 12 months prior to the time of application.  Test results printed on a high school transcript are not acceptable. 

 

After Notification of Eligibility Has Been Received

Students who have met our PSEO eligibility requirements will be notified to take the Accuplacer test. Accuplacer test results will determine if admission to the PSEO program will be granted.  Only students testing at college level reading will be admitted into the PSEO program.Students are responsible for submitting their test results to the Admissions Office prior to the deadline.   The results of your placement test will also help you select classes matched to your skills.

Students Admitted into the PSEO program

1. Complete orientation

Attend a mandatory orientation session and receive personal assistance with program information, course selection, and the registration process. 

2. Register for classes

After you have completed the steps above, you're ready to register online using your Student ID and PIN. Make sure that you have consulted with your high school counselor about which classes meet your high school graduation requirements before registering.

  • PSEO funding does not cover the cost of developmental courses (course numbered below 1000); PSEO students registering for developmental courses are responsible for payment of tuition and fees for these courses.
  • PSEO funding does not cover courses which have additional fees, such as those charged for Applied Piano, Digital Photography, Golf, etc.)
  • The Minnesota Department of Education will only cover PSEO expenses billed by the institution(s) to which PSEO students have been admitted.  PSEO students will be responsible for any tuition, fees, and supplies at any institution(s) to which they are not admitted.

3. Pick up/charge books

The Bookstore schedules days for PSEO students to charge books. Remember to bring a copy of your class schedule and your NHCC student ID to charge books.
