Web Browsers
NHCC online courses require a web browser be installed on your computer. Browsers used by AOL or CompuServe do not work properly. If you are using AOL, see the attached tech tip for more information.

Adobe Reader - Software for viewing and printing Adobe PDF files.

Word Viewer - This viewer lets you open Word 2003 documents and documents created with all previous versions of Microsoft Word for Windows and Microsoft Word for Macintosh.

Office 2007 Converter - Open, edit, and save documents, workbooks, and presentations in the file formats new to Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007.

Excel Viewer - This viewer allows users without MS Excel to view Excel 2003 spreadsheets.

PowerPoint Viewer - This viewer allows users to view full-featured presentations created in PowerPoint 97 and later versions.

Text Reading Software
Free software is available for text to speech conversion. Thank you to our NHCC student who tested both and reports these findings:

ReadPlease (www.readplease.com) requires the user to copy and paste the text that needs to be read. This means having to switch back and forth between ReadPlease and the application currently in use--such as Word or IE. While this is convenient for large blocks of text, it is not convenient if the user is trying to view a web page.
SATogo ( www.satogo.com ) will read any text on the screen. SATogo will read PDFs, Microsoft Word Documents, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and pretty much any other programs and/or documents. It is very useful for every aspect of computer use.
