North Hennepin Community College (NHCC) recently received a $5,000 grant from Xcel Energy which will be used to implement a science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) curriculum to its Cornerstones program.
Jennifer Summer-Lambrecht, NHCC Foundation’s Interim Executive Director, says, “We are grateful and excited about what the Xcel grant will enable us to do this summer. It will help NHCC expand its summer Cornerstones program by adding a new STEM learning community. This student cohort will focus on academic support in math and science, career exploration in STEM fields, and field trips including a visit to an Excel Energy plant.”
Scott Johnson, Xcel Energy’s Manager of Community and Local Government Relations, says, “We are happy about our new relationship with NHCC. The Cornerstones program aligns well with our commitment to supporting math and science initiatives and students interested in technical fields.”
