North Hennepin Community College and the NHCC Foundation hosted their 2010 Medallion Awards ceremony on Thursday, May 6th at Edinburgh USA in Brooklyn Park. The Medallion Awards is an annual celebration that acknowledges exceptional community members, alumni and employees for their contributions to the college.
The Presidential Medallion was awarded to Prince and Sandra Wallace, both devoted supporters of the college and leaders in the community. They have collectively served on NHCC’s Foundation Board for well over a decade and they and their children continue to contribute to the college today.
Josh Houston was honored as Distinguished Alumnus. From being a troubled youth to now being an Assistant State Attorney in Florida, Houston is a prime example of a student who turned his life around – thanks to being ‘inspired’ by some of his teachers at NHCC.
The late Conrad Balfour received the honor of Professor Emeritus in recognition of his excellence in teaching, scholarship, research, and campus and community involvement. Mary Ewert-Knodell, Susan Nyhus and Julien Phillips were each presented with the Excellence in Education Award in recognition of their contributions to student success. Sheryl Olson was credited with the Excellence in Service Award for her high-level achievements, professionalism and dedication to the college. Dr. Deanna Forsman was recognized as the Faculty Association’s Educator of the Year for her service to students and colleagues. And Tracy Bjerke, Stephen Brosko and Kitty Hennemann were acknowledged for their continuous commitment of Fifteen Years of Service. |
