NHCC Receives $20,000 from Kopp Family Foundation

    August 24, 2011

North Hennepin Community College (NHCC) recently received a generous $20,000 donation from the Kopp Family Foundation, which will be used toward student scholarships and random acts of kindness.

The college’s random acts of kindness program provides emergency loans and grants to students who are, as Jennifer Summer-Lambrecht, NHCC Foundation Executive Director, explains, “one dead car battery away from dropping out of classes.”

NHCC President John O’Brien praised the Kopp Foundation for its long-standing commitment to making college more affordable for students, not only at North Hennepin, but around the state.  “Tuition increases and persistent economic uncertainty have made attending college a challenge for many of our students,” O’Brien says. “Donations like this put college within reach for students, and we know that education transforms lives.”

Lee & Barbara Kopp established the Kopp Family Foundation in 1986. The Foundation’s primary goals are: (1) to help individuals achieve success by continuing their education; (2) to support non-profit organizations that encourage youth development, address women’s issues and provide for the care and quality of life for the elderly; and (3) provide emergency assistance in the form of shelter and transportation for those in need.
