NHCC Foundation's "Dream Upon A Star" Event Surpasses Fundraising Goal for Student Scholarships

    April 20, 2011

The North Hennepin Community College Foundation hosted its 28th annual gala on Friday, April 8th at the Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center. The Foundation’s largest fundraiser for student scholarships was attended by more than 250 people and exceeded expectations with a 30% increase in net revenue and nearly 100% participation from the college community.

“The overwhelming support for this year’s event was a dream come true,” says Jennifer Summer-Lambrecht, Interim Executive Director of the Foundation. “We were able to raise more money for students by increasing donations and reducing costs. And we couldn’t have done it without the generous support of our dedicated board members, local businesses, community members, college employees, and alumni who donated items, services, and time.”

Jim Garvey (pictured left), NHCC Foundation Board President, spoke to guests about the importance of access to higher education and invited everyone to join together in support of NHCC students.

Of NHCC’s student body, 41 percent are considered low income, 64 percent are first generation college students, 32 percent are students of color, and 64 percent work part time. These statistics, combined with decreasing state support and rising costs of tuition, mean that students need more financial support now than ever before.

The purpose of the NHCC Foundation is to raise the spirit and quality of life in the community by providing financial resources for higher education and enhancing the image of NHCC.
