For the first time ever, North Hennepin Community College (NHCC) participated in Delta Epsilon Chi (DEX)’s State Competitions in Marketing and Management this February. Thirteen accomplished NHCC business students traveled to Mankato to compete for three rigorous days, and while each student is a winner in NHCC’s book, several students officially placed:
- Julya Kovalenko and Matt Houck finished first in an event category called "Management Institute," an experiential team case study; Melanie Heins finished second; and Frankie Young finished third.
- Melanie Heins was also a finalist (top 8 out of 60) in “Retail and Fashion Management.”
- Andrew Case-Allan was a finalist (top 8 out of 100) in the “Employment Interview.”
- Jordan Stielow was a finalist (top 13 out of 50) in “Sports Management.”
- Jerrod Ambrose and Matt Houck were both finalists (top 13 out of 200) in “Marketing Management.”
The above-named NHCC students will also compete in these respective categories at DEX’s International Career Development conference in Louisville, Kentucky this coming April. Epsilon Chi is an international organization for college students preparing for a variety of business careers. In this competition, more than 400 students from a dozen campuses across the state of Minnesota competed in 60-90 minute events that included case analysis, preparation, and presentations before judges.
