Part of being in the Student Ambassador Program is planning and working on community outreach events as a group. We organize these events so that we can represent NHCC in the community and help to make our community a better place to live. We try to plan and participate in two events throughout the semester.
Here are some examples of past group events that we organized:
We participated in Feed my Starving Children on several occasions. We helped together meals that were shipped to starving families in more than 50 countries around the world.
In the Fall Semester of 2005, we organized a Toy and Book Drive. We created boxes and distributed them throughout campus for donated toys and books. Then, we brought all the items to St. Josephs Home for Children, so they could be given to kids as holiday presents.
In Spring 2006, we hosted a Park Clean Up. We went to a local park and spent several hours picking up garbage. We left behind a beautiful park and knowing we did something good for the community.
In August 2006, we read to children at Step by Step Montessori School, located right across the street from NHCC. The children were learning about Africa and celebrating African traditions. We brought over books about Africa. Each group took turns to read stories and play games with the children. This event was a delight for us, as well as the children. The children were ranged in age from infants to 2nd graders. Hopefully they will someday consider NHCC for their college education. |
