Celebrate your graduation from NHCC by participating in the 2014 Commencement Ceremony!
The College hosts an annual commencement at the end of spring semester. The ceremony honors the hard work and achievements of our graduates, as well as acknowledges the invaluable support received from their families and friends. All students who have graduated during the 2013-14 academic year are encouraged to participate in the spring 2014 ceremony. This includes students who graduated in Fall 2013, Summer 2013 graduates who did not attend the May 2013 commencement because they applied after the Spring 2013 deadline, and Summer 2014 graduates who will apply by the Spring 2014 deadline of April 11, 2014.
This year’s ceremony will be held at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium at the St. Paul RiverCentre in downtown St. Paul on the evening of Wednesday, May 14, 2014. Details about the specific time (after 6pm), driving directions (only 20 minutes away), parking (discounted lot parking or free metered parking after 6pm will be available), bus service (to and from NHCC will be available for free), event seating, other special opportunities in downtown St Paul, and more will soon follow.
How do I register to participate in commencement?
The first and most important step to participate in commencement is to complete your Graduation Application & Follow-Up Survey and return them to the Records & Registration Office. All students who apply for graduation will receive more detailed information this spring about commencement, including how to obtain regalia, as well as other checklist items.
What is regalia?
Regalia is the academic robe (gown), mortar board (cap), and tassel you wear during the ceremony. Student Life will provide graduates with these items. There is no special ordering. Details about when and where to pick up regalia will be provided this spring.
Why off-campus and on the Wednesday after finals?
Holding commencement off-campus and on the Wednesday after finals is a major change for NHCC, but one we believe will be enthusiastically welcomed by everyone involved. Over the years, the number of NHCC graduates has grown and the number of guests exceeds the capacity of our gymnasium. Even with a two guest limitation, last year nearly 500 guests had to watch the ceremony on overhead screens from different locations around campus. In addition, holding the ceremony after finals has become a common practice at many other colleges because more graduates and faculty are able to participate and enjoy the event with finals out of the way.
In conclusion, this event is too important to not allow everyone an opportunity to attend. Finding a suitable location, such as the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul, allows all guests to witness this special occasion and celebrate together.
How many guests can I invite?
The best part about having commencement at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium is that graduates will be able to invite as many guests as they wish! No tickets will be required.
