Access NHCC is a student group that gathers together for social, recreational and educational opportunities. Membership is open to all students and employees who have a one time or chronic physical, mental or emotional health issues wishing to participate.
The organization creates a sense of community among its members by offering:
Peer support – encourage one another through conversation about living with a disability.
Mentoring – one-on-one assistance, if needed.
Networking – building relationships with other organizations related to the concerns of its membership.
Advocating – collaboration in the classroom, with Disability Access Services (DAS), with a counselor, or any form of support needed to achieve your goals.
Financial – providing funds for educational purposes to attend events or a conference, bring guest speakers, etc.
Meetings - Access NHCC will hold regular bi-monthly meetings that consist of socializing, critical dialogue, identifying barriers, creating action plans, planning of events, etc. Look for our current schedule on a NHCC bulletin board near you.
Mission - Members of Access NHCC are seeking positive change that will benefit both the student with health issues and the campus of North Hennepin Community College. To accomplish this, the organization will seek to identify disability-related issues on campus and within the community to resolve them. It will also provide educational services through activities, speakers, awareness-raising events, social gatherings and fundraisers.
