Cornerstone College Preparation and Career PlanningProgram Description
High SchoolThe Cornerstones High School Program is an exciting college-preparation opportunity for promising high school students. NHCC's goal is to help students learn in high school, as well as prepare them for college. Students will gain social development, academic enrichment, and leadership skills. Services include:
- Learning how to apply for financial aid and scholarships
- Making college visits
- Going on field trips
- Receiving tutoring and mentorships
- Improving study and test taking skills
- Career assessing and advising
- Assistance with researching, selecting, and applying for college
Junior High SchoolThe Cornerstones Junior High Program supports the development of college readiness skills; fosters relationships between students and NHCC; provides skill assessments that will help students plan for college; and encourages holistic development for academic and social success. NHCC strives to cultivate student success academically, socially, and personally. Students will have field trips, perform community service activities, and participate in workshops regarding college readiness and career planning.
Summer ProgramThe Cornerstones Summer Program is a free, three-week program for incoming junior and high school students. Students will learn what college life is like, as they prepare for their futures. Classroom materials, breakfast and lunch, and transportation to and from NHCC from local schools are included.
In addition to classroom activities, there will be a trip to Valley Fair and a visit to a four-year university.
